Transmission
Eight screws (2)
Using 9/16-inch socket and ratchet handle
assembly (1)
and washers (3)
with 1/2-inch drive, unscrew and take out.

Flywheel housing (4)
Transmission (1)
a. Support the weight of the transmission
and gasket (5)
assembly (1) with transmission jack.
b. Using transmission jack, move trans-
mission (1) back to separate from
housing (4).
Keep transmission level until clear
of guide studs.
c. When clear of guide studs, tilt rear of
transmission (1) slightly downward, so
that torque converter will not fall out.
d. Lower transmission (1) and take out
from under vehicle.
e. Install torque converter restraining
strap.
f. Install assembly in overhaul stand.
g. Get rid of gasket (5).
INSTALLATION
WARNING
When the transmission is installed, the torque converter can slide forward out of the
transmission and fall. This can cause injury to you.
CAUTION
Maintain transmission alignment to engine flywheel housing during installation to
prevent damage to the converter.

a. Remove dust plugs.

c. Position the transmission on a trans-
mission jack.
d. Take off converter restraining strap.
e. Position transmission under vehicle
using transmission jack.
