Crankshaft (1)
Crankshaft pulley
Using 2-inch open-end wrench, screw on
nut (2)
and tighten.
This will allow you to turn the
crankshaft by hand.
2.
Crankshaft timing
a.
Using 2-inch open-end wrench, turn
gear (3)
crankshaft (1) until gear timing marks
line up.
b.
Write down their locations so timing
gears can be installed in their origi-
nal position.
c.
Using dial indicator, check backlash
between gears.
Backlash should be 0.0005 - 0.0045
inch (0.013 - 0.114 mm). If
backlash Is not within limits, the
timing gear will be replaced.
d.
Using dial indicator, check and record
end play.
End play should be 0.004 - 0.010 inch
(0.102 - 0.254 mm). Too
much end play usually indicates that
bearing shells and/or thrust flanges
are worn:-
