i. Ventilation. All crates shall be provided with ventilating holes or slots which shall be located at each
end or at ends and sides of lumber and plywood sheathed crates, or around the perimeter of plywood and
lumber-sheathed crates. These ventilating holes or slots shall be located immediately below the top frame
member and be provided with a baffle as shown in figure D-3-12 when slots are used in plywood sheathed
crates or when holes are in clusters in lumber-sheathed crates. Single holes drilled without baffles shall be
sloped at 450 to drain outward. No holes or slots shall be cut in any frame member.
