NO-LOAD TEST
NOTE
This test should be performed to find cause of starter motor failure. Inspection and testing done
after disassembly may also show defects within the motor.
The following test should be performed again after the motor is assembled and adjusted to make
sure it is working properly.
1.
Starting motor (1)
Pinion gear (2)
a.
Using 3/8-inch flat-tip screwdriver,
pry on pinion gear (2) to turn it.
b.
If gear (2) turns hard, disassemble
motor (1) and look for cause.
c.
If gear (2) turns easily, perform NO-
LOAD TEST as described.
