Carbon cleaning compound is a corrosive liquid. If splashed in eyes, it can cause blindness. If splashed on
skin it can cause very serious burns. Be sure to wear safety goggles or lenses, rubber apron and rubber
gloves. If accidentally splashed in eyes or on skin, flush with clean, cool water and refer to First Aid Manual,
FM 21-11. Be sure to wear safety goggles or lenses when using compressed air. Compressed air and
particles moved by compressed air can cause damage to your eyes.

All valve parts
a.
Soak parts in carbon cleaning
compound.
b.
Using fine wire brush, clean off all
carbon.
c.
Rinse in clean water.
d.
Blow dry with compressed air.

For more information on how to inspect parts, go to General Maintenance Instructions (page 2-46).
Replace parts that are not within specified limits, or which are defective and cannot be repaired.
