Two screws (2) and
Using 9/16-inch socket and ratchet handle
washers (3)
with 112-inch drive, unscrew and take off.

One main bearing
a.
Take off.
cap (4) and lower

Do not touch plastic gage tape.
bearing shell (5)
c.
Using plastic gage tape envelope,
measure widest point of tape
The reading Indicates bearing clear-
ance In thousandths of an inch.
Main bearing clearance must be
0.0013 - 0.0043 inch (0.033-
0.109 mm).
d.
If clearance does not meet given limits,
replace crankshaft.
e.
Take off tape.
f.
Put shell (5) and cap (4) back in
place using plastic-face hammer to tap
in place.

One main bearing
Two washers (6)
Screw In until snug using 13/16-inch
cap (4)
and screws (7)
socket and ratchet handle with 112-inch
drive.
39.
Cylinder block (1)
Two washers (3) and
Screw in until snug using 9/16-inch
screws (2)
socket and ratchet handle with 1/2-inch
drive.
40.
One main bearing
Two screws (7)
Tighten to 1 - 115 ft-lb (149 - 56 N m)
cap (4)
of torque using 13/16-inch socket and
torque wrench with 1/2-inch drive.
41.
Cylinder block (1)
Two screws (2)
Tighten to - 50 ft-lb (54 - 61 N m)
of torque using 9/16-inch socket and
torque wrench with 1/2-inch drive.
42.
Crankshaft (8)
Using dial indicator, check end play.
If end play Is not 0.004 - 0.010 Inch
(0.102 - 0.254 mm) replace crank-
shaft.
