a. Inspect
Replace if cracked, oil

b. Check
Use inside micrometer or bore
cylinder
gage. Check below top ring
bores
location and at several
inside
points down length. If
diameter
taper is more than 0.002
for taper
inch, replace crankcase
c. Check
Use bore gage. Measure
cylinder
lengthwise just below top
bores
ring location at four
out-of-
points 90 degrees from each
roundness
other. If out-of-roundness
exceeds 0.001 inch, replace
crankcase

Piston (27)
a. Inspect
Replace if cracked, scored,
or if piston ring grooves
are enlarged
b. Measure
Use micrometer. Measure
outside
piston in relationship
diameter
to cylinder bore diameter.
Diametral clearance is
between 0.002 inch minimum,
to 0.004 inch maximum.
Replace piston if it does
not fall within these
clearance tolerances

Piston rings
a. Inspect
Replace if cracked, scored,
(31),
or excessively worn
expander ring
b. Check fit
Use ring expander to install
(32), and oil
of rings
rings. Use thickness gage
ring (33)
in piston
to check fit. Piston ring
clearance is between 0.002
inch minimum, to 0.004 inch
maximum. Oil ring clearance
is between 0.001 inch mini-
mum to 0.003 inch maximum.
Replace two piston rings
(31) and/or oil ring (32)
if clearances are excessive
