Replace damaged parts as necessary.

Bearing (1)
Inspect (TM 9-214).

Lower steering
a.
Look for cracks, breaks , and dents.

Look for damaged threads and key slot.
NOTE
Do not do step 26 if you are inspecting left side knuckle assembly.

Upper steering
a.
Look for cracks, breaks, and dents.

Look for damaged threads and key slots.

Steering
a.
Look for cracks, breaks, dents, and
knuckle (4)
deeply scratched bushing bores.
b.
Look for signs of excessive wear.
28.
Kingpin (5)
a.
Look for scratches, dents, and flat
spots.
b.
Look for signs of wear.
29.
Upper bushing
a.
Look for deep scratches and gouges.
(6) and lower
b.
Check for looseness.

Look for signs of uneven wear.
d.
Look for out-of-round condition.
If any defects are found, go back
to step 20, and remove damaged
bushings. If bushings are not
damaged, continue task at step 30.
ASSEMBLY
30.
Steering
New lower
Press in until flush with knuckle (4) using
knuckle (4)
bushing (7)
arbor press.
31.
New upper
Press in until bushing is 0.20 to 0 .26-inch
bushing (6)
(0.50 to 0.66 mm) below edge of bore
using arbor press.
