PISTONS AND CONNECTING RODS - CONTINUED

NOTE
All pistons and connecting rods are maintained the same way. One piston and connecting rod is shown.
Repeat procedure for each piston rod and connecting rod to be worked on.
REMOVAL
1.
Cylinder block (1)
Cylinder bore (2)
Using clean, dry rag, wipe carbon
from
upper inner surface.
2.
Crankshaft
Crankshaft (4)
Using 2-inch socket and ratchet
handle with
pulley (3)
3/4-inch drive, turn until piston (5) is
at bottom of its travel.
3.
Cylinder block (1)
Cylinder bore (2)
Look for ridge at top of piston ring
travel.
NOTE
If there is no ridge on top edge of bore, skip steps 4 thru 7, and go on to step 8.
4.
Cylinder block (1)
Piston (5)
Using clean, dry rag, completely cover top
to collect cuttings.
CAUTION
Be careful not to let any cuttings get between cylinder block bore and piston. Parts could be scratched
during piston removal.

Cylinder block (1)
Cylinder bore (2)
Using cylinder bore ridge reamer,
remove
ridge.
6.
Crankshaft
Crankshaft (4)
Using 2-Inch deep well socket and
pulley (3)
handle with 314-inch drive, turn until pis-
ton (5) is at top of its travel.
7.
Cylinder block (1)
Piston (5)
Carefully take off rag with cuttings.
