(c) Solid contaminants such as dust, rust, scale, and metal chips further classified into loosely adhering and
tightly adhering. Examples of loosely adhering solid contaminants are metal chips and shop dust. Examples of tightly
adhering solid contaminants are the rust and scale that develop on metals.
(d) Other contaminants that must be considered are chemical contaminants such as plating solutions, acids,
alkali residue, salts, and other chemical agents used in heat treating operations and other manufacturing processes.
