All metal parts
a.
Clean in dry-cleaning solvent.
b.
Dry parts with compressed air.
c.
Clean oil passages with a piece of
soft wire and by flushing with dry-
cleaning solvent.
5.
Clean (TM 9-214).
INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT/REPAIR
NOTE
For more information on how to inspect parts, go to General Maintenance Instructions (page 2-46).
Replace damaged or defective parts as needed.
6.
All gears
a.
Look for scuffed areas and nicked,
burred, and broken teeth. If defects
cannot be removed with a soft stone,
replace the gear or assembly.
b.
Look for wear that has changed sh ape
of gear. If found, replace gear or
assembly.
7.
All splined parts
a.
Look for stripped, twisted, chipped, or
burred splines. Remove burrs with a
stone. Replace part if defects cannot
be removed.
b.
Look for spline wear. If wear affects
tightness of fit, replace part.
8.
Inspect (TM 9-214).
9.
All clutch plates
a.  Look for burrs, heat marks, and wear.
b.  Remove burrs with crocus cloth or
fine hand file.
c.  Look for worn splines.
