Replace damaged or defective parts, as needed.
22.
All gears
a.
Look for scuffed areas and nicked,
burred, and broken teeth. If defects
cannot be removed with a soft stone,
replace the gear or assembly.
b.
Look for wear that has changed shape
of gear. If found, replace gear or
assembly.
23.
All splined parts
a.
Look for stripped, twisted, chipped , or
burred splines. Remove burrs with a
soft stone. Replace part if defects
cannot be removed.
b.
Look for spline wear. If wear affects
tightness of fit, replace part.
24.
Inspect (TM 9-214).
25.
All bushings
a.
Look for scores, burrs, out-of-round,
and signs of overheating.
b.
Remove scores and burrs with crocus
cloth.
c.
If defects cannot be removed, replace
the assembly.
ASSEMBLY
NOTE
If the lubrication orifice plug was not removed, skip step 26.
26.
Main shaft (1)
New lubrication
a.  Place in position with small orificed
orifice plug (2)
end first.
b.  Using orifice plug installer and
ball-peen hammer, tap into place.
