CLEANING - CONTINUED
All metal parts
a. Clean in drycleaning solvent.
b. Dry parts with compressed air.
c. Clean oil passages with piece of soft
wire and by flushing with drycleaning
For more information on how to inspect parts, go to General Maintenance Instructions (page 2-46).
Replace damaged or defective parts, as needed.
a. Look for scores, burrs, out-of-round
and signs of overheating.
b. Remove burrs with crocus cloth or fine
Drive (2) and
a. Look for nicked, burred, or broken
driven gear (3)
If one gear is damaged,
replace both gears.
b. Put drive and driven gears in position
in pump (4).
c. Place machinist's rule across flat sur-
face of pump (4).
d. Place thickness gage between e ach
gear (2) and (3) and machinist's rule.
e. If clearance is more than 0.003-inch
(0.08 mm), replace pump (4).
Oil pump (4) and
a. Look for nicks, scratches and score
front support (5) marks.
b. Rub out defects with crocus cloth.
Two seal rings (6)
a. Look for wear on side or outside
b. Look for broken hooks.
Ground sleeve (7)
a. On splines, look for stripped, twisted,
chipped, or burred areas.
b. Remove burrs with soft stone.
