WARNING
Make battery connections first. Disconnect battery connection last. Sparking battery terminal
connections may cause battery to explode causing serious injury.
CAUTION
Never operate starting motor more than 30 seconds at one time, and each time let it cool for two
minutes. Overheating can cause serious damage to the motor.

Starting motor (1)
a.
Put starting motor (1) on test stand
and connect tachometer.
b.
Connect ammeter and carbon pile in
series with positive battery post and
positive starter solenoid post (2).
c.
Connect starting motor ground terminal
(3) to negative battery post.
d.
Connect red voltmeter lead to
positive solenoid post (2), and black
lead to starting motor ground ter-
minal (3).
e.
Adjust carbon pile until voltmeter
reads nine volts.
f.
Connect jumper to solenoid pos-
itive post (2).
g.
Touch jumper to solenoid start
switch tab (4).
h.
Read ammeter.
Ammeter should read 120 to 150
amps.
i.
Starting motor should run 3,000 to
4,500 rpm.
j.
Take off jumper cable.
