CAUTION
Because of special heat treatment and hardening of connecting rods, do not try to straighten or bend rod in
any way. This will cause tiny cracks in the hardened surface and will eventually lead to rod breakage.

Connecting rod (1)
Using alinement checking fixture, check
for straightness.
Piston pin bore and connecting
rod
bearing bore must be parallel to
within 0.0005 inch (0.0127 mm).
If
rod is bent, replace it.

Connecting rod (1)
Bearing cap (2)
Put in place.

Bearing cap (2) and
Two new screws (3), a.
Screw in until snug.
Tighten to 55 ft-
connecting rod (1)

meter, caliper, measure bore diameter
attached
at several places.
Diameter must be 2.9455 to
2.9460
inches (74.816 to 74.828 mm).
b.
Using micrometer check bore for out-of-
round.
Maximum out-of-round allowed
is
0.0005 inch (0.0127 mm).
c.
Using micrometer check bore taper at
several places.
Maximum allowable taper is
0.0005
inch (0.0127 mm).
d.
Check bearing shell surfaces for
smoothness without evidence of uneven
bearing contact or movement of shells
in the bore.
