Crankshaft (1)
Rear main bearing
Place in position so numbers on caps
cap (2) and four
(2) and (3) face the right side of engine.

Ten new washers (4)
a.
Apply clean engine oil to screw threads,
cap (2) and four
and screws (5)
washers, and underside of screwheads.

Screw in until snug using 13/16-inch
caps (3)
socket and ratchet handle with 1/2-inch
drive.
Do not torque at this time.
c.
Using plastic-face hammer tap each cap
(2) and (3) until rear machined sur-
face of cap is flush with block
machined surface.
d.
Using 13/16-inch socket and torque
wrench with 112-inch drive, tighten
screws (5) to 110 - 115 ft-lb
(149 - 156 N m) of torque.

Cylinder block (6)
Ten new washers (7)
a.
Screw in until snug using 9116-inch
and screws (8)
socket and ratchet handle with 1/2-
inch drive.
b.
Tighten to 40 - 50 ft-lb (54 - 61 N m)
of torque.
NOTE
Steps 30 thru 37 will check bearing cap and shell to crankshaft main journal clearance. Repeat the steps for
all bearing caps. If any bearing shell-to-journal clearance is out of tolerance given, replace crankshaft.
All main bearing caps must be installed and torqued to specification.
Do not turn crankshaft while checking clearance.
30.

Using 9/16-inch socket and ratchet handle

with 1/2-inch drive, unscrew and take out.

One main bearing
Two screws (5)
Using 13/16-inch socket and ratchet handle
cap (3)
and washers (4)
with 1/2-inch drive, unscrew and take out.
