Step 21 Is replacement procedure for one valve guide. Repeat as necessary for other damaged guides.

Cylinder head (1)
Valve guide (2)
a.
Position head (1) bottom side up on
support fixture in arbor press.
b.
Using valve guide remover tool and
press, press out guide (2).
All guides must be pressed out from
bottom through top of head.
c.
Get rid of damaged guide (2).
d.
Position head (1) top side up on sup-
port fixture in arbor press.
e.
Adjust valve guide installer tool for
1.219-inch (30.96 mm) valve guide
height above head (1).
f.
Put top end of new guide (2) into
installer tool.
g.
Lubricate outside diameter of guide (3)
with mixture of clean engine oil and
white lead.
h.
Using installer tool and press, press
new guide (2) into head (1).
i.
Reaming is not necessary but use a
reamer to make sure burrs are removed
and that the guide (2) was not dis-
torted during installation.
NOTE
Step 22 is replacement procedure for one valve seat insert. Repeat as necessary for other damaged seat
inserts.

Valve seat
a.
Position head (1) bottom side up.
insert (3)
b.
Using valve seat remover tool and slide
hammer, take out.
c.
Get rid of insert (3).
d.
Using chart below, select the proper
size insert (3).
e.
Using valve seat insert grinder,
clean up, or machine to the correct
oversized diameter, the valve seat
counterbores.
